Hogwarts Legacy Presentation: The Open World, Combat System, and the Room of Requirement

| By Yaroslav Moklyak

Hogwarts Legacy
Avalanche Software held a half-hour broadcast on Hogwarts Legacy. On it the developers talked about the structure of the open world, the combat system with the use of forbidden spells and the possibilities of customization and crafting in the Room of Requirement.

Hogwarts Legacy Gameplay Showcase

Open World

Hogwarts Legacy Open World

The presentation began with the surroundings of Hogwarts. The hero got on his broom and flew to explore the area.

Brooms with different designs can be bought in a special store in Hogsmeade. If you complete the task of the store owner, it will be possible to improve them: for example, to increase the acceleration time at altitude.

The mini-map displays icons of activity: riddles of ancient wizards, by solving which you can improve your spells, and in battles with monsters you can get magical resources.

After walking on foot, the protagonist summoned a hippogriff from the pre-order bonus. You can not only fly it, but also move around on the ground.

О he open world will be fully accessible for exploration after a certain plot point. Locations differ from each other with varying degrees of difficulty. While flying, the protagonist met multi-level opponents on the ground, and a clue appeared on how to fight more difficult opponents.

The developers then changed from summer to winter. The seasons would change as the story progressed.

The number of NPCs on the streets and in Hogwarts depends on the time of day, as well as the availability of certain activities.

Combat System

More about the mechanics of combat was told in the arena for practicing defense against the dark arts – this location is available in the Deluxe editions of the game, or it can be purchased separately as part of the DLC.

There are two such battle arenas in the main game. You can get cosmetic items for completing tests and battling waves of the enemy in it.

All spells and talents are available in the arena from the DLC, so you can experiment with the build.

The protagonist immediately killed one of the enemies with the deadly Avada Kedavra spell, which then took about a couple of minutes to recharge. The hero also used Crucio to paralyze the victim with unbearable pain.

The character has a predisposition to ancient magic. Her counter is accumulated during combat by performing combos and collecting blue essence from enemies. Once the scale is full, energy can be channeled into particularly powerful spells.

You can use brewed potions and cultivated plants in combat. For example, a stone skin potion that increases resistance to physical damage. Focus potion shortens the recovery time of spells. And plants can be planted right on the battlefield, and one of them works as an automatic turret, and, for example, mandrake stuns the enemies with its scream.

One of the talents allows you to curse your enemies and divide the damage dealt to one of them among all of them. For example, if you curse several enemies and then kill one of them instantly with Avada Kedavra, they all die at once.

Room of Requirement

Hogwarts Legacy Room of Requirement

The player will be able to furnish the Room of Requirement to his liking: change the architecture, arrange items, and change their size and color.

Equipment with various bonuses can be added to the clothes. But first the magic items must be identified with a special device in the Room of Requirement.

Inside the Room of Requirement there is a separate menagerie where magical animals can be stroked, fed, and harvested for crafting.

The animals must first be rescued during the game before they can be moved to the menagerie.

You can also place decorative items in the menagerie. You can also set up an automatic feeding device so that you don’t have to do it yourself.

Each animal has a favorite toy, with which it will be happy to have fun. You can also give each creature a nickname.

As you pass, you can find several more menageries, which will differ in the type of location.
