Game Science has released a 15-minute showcase for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, blending gameplay and cutscenes. The studio notes the game is still in early development and the footage was captured from an interim build.
The video follows a lone swordsman hunting monsters across varied encounters — from feral dogs to a massive mollusk-human hybrid. Combat involves swordfighting, throwing incendiary bombs that severely weaken demonic enemies, and absorbing fire and other elemental forces to imbue the blade. The protagonist can also summon a spectral warrior and possess it. The final moments of the video show the character in his full form — Zhong Kui astride a tiger.
Zhong Kui is a demon king from Chinese mythology whose purpose is to repel evil and misfortune. The game is a single-player action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology and folklore.
No release date has been announced. The game is in development for PC and current-generation consoles.
