15 Minutes of Gameplay from Hell is Us

Hell Is Us

Publisher Nacon and studio Rogue Factor have released a video from the adventure Hell is Us. The gameplay is commented on by the project's creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, art director of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and the latest Deus Ex.

Hell is Us takes place in 1993 in the fictional country of Heidia, where a civil war is raging. When the main character Remy was five years old, his mother sent him to Canada. Having grown up, Remy returns home to find his parents and find out why they abandoned him. The protagonist remembers only a couple of facts from his distant childhood - he was born in the village of Giova, and his father worked as a blacksmith.

Jacques-Bellete assures that the brainchild of Rogue Factor is very different from modern action adventures, which lead the player by the hand and present him with all the information on a silver platter. In Hell is Us there is no mini-map, and the compass, as it should be, only indicates the cardinal directions. To navigate the terrain, you need to rely only on your observation skills and the advice of local residents.

The authors adhere to this philosophy in the design of puzzles. You will be left to your own devices, and Remy will not start mumbling clues if the study of the puzzle drags on. As an example of a puzzle, the director showed a dungeon with inscriptions in an ancient language, which are translated by a drone assistant.

Exploration of the world is only half of the game: the other half is battles with monsters. According to Jacques-Bellete, Hell is Us is not as hardcore as soulslikes, but in battles you will have to use all available tools - different types of melee weapons, drone abilities and colorful special attacks.

Hell is Us will launch in 2025 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
