With Code Vein 2 launching later this month, Bandai Namco published an overview trailer demonstrating core gameplay elements through one mission's playthrough.
Story of Time Travel and Revenge
As a reminder, Code Vein 2 tells the story of a hunter attempting to save the world during an apocalypse. In the game's world, ordinary people coexisted with Immortals until the latter began transforming into monsters following the Rapacis Moon's emergence. Throughout the story, the protagonist teams with mysterious girl Lou, who can time travel. Together, the heroes resolve to uncover the truth and avenge those responsible.
Press Impressions from Closed Demo
Alongside the trailer release, Bandai Namco lifted the preview embargo. Here's what journalists shared based on the closed demo:
- Code Vein 2 retains the original's recognizable features while feeling more like a standalone action-RPG than a simple sequel. The game significantly expands predecessor combat mechanics and ideas, offering massive customization possibilities and a completely separate story.
- Each in-game weapon allows configuring four special abilities called "Forms," divided into three categories: combat, magic, and support.
- While time traveling, heroes will find new allies joining their mission. All companions possess distinctive features and storylines. The fresh video demonstrates one such companion — Josie.
- Time travel and past decisions influence story development. For example, Josie can be saved or left unchanged, subsequently facing her in the present after she transforms into a monster.
Code Vein 2 releases January 30 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
