Bandai Namco has released an 8.5-minute gameplay trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve focused entirely on the online multiplayer mode.
Online players take on the role of a custom mercenary pilot separate from the main campaign. An airbase hub supports up to 100 simultaneous players. Missions reward cosmetics for avatar and aircraft customization.
Two main online modes:
- Co-Op Assault — PvE, two teams of four compete to score the most points by destroying NPC enemies. Different missions call for different aircraft.
- Co-Op Warfare — PvP, two teams of four battle each other alongside controllable ground, naval, and air units. Threat level rises as players accumulate score — higher threat means more points earned per kill, but also more points lost on death.
Special limited-time missions include Scramble, where a four-player team faces a high-level NPC squad, and Emergency Sortie, where eight pilots take on legendary colossal weapons from the Ace Combat series in high-difficulty encounters. Limited PvP events are also planned, including an 8-player free-for-all mode.
The Ace Pass battle pass runs in 2-month seasons, with all rewards also available for individual purchase.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve launches October 2 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
