Age of Mythology: Retold, a remastered Age of Mythology strategy game with classic gameplay and modern graphics, will be available on September 4. However, the press got early access to the game, so Retold already has its first reviews – they are very positive.
Statistics at the moment of writing:
- Average score: 82 out of 100
- 82% of critics recommend the game
- 22 reviews taken into account
Reviewers praise the developers of Retold for their approach: new graphics on the framework of the old gameplay perfectly awaken a sense of nostalgia, and targeted changes in the gameplay add freshness. For example, all divine powers can now be used repeatedly - this changes the pace of the match and allows you to build new tactics.
Among the shortcomings, they note minor bugs and problems with finding paths for units. But most agree that this does not interfere with enjoying Retold - some call the re-release an excellent gift to fans and a good entry point for those who wanted to understand why RTS was loved in the golden era of the genre.
Recall that Age of Mythology: Retold transfers the Age of Empires gameplay to a mythological setting with legendary monsters like centaurs and mummies, as well as gods from the Greek, Scandinavian, Egyptian and Atlantean pantheons. Two add-ons with two additional pantheons have already been announced - one of them will be Chinese.
Age of Mythology: Retold is coming to PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series (including Game Pass). On August 28, the game will be available for those who bought the extended edition, and on September 4 - for everyone else.
