Another Crab's Treasure: Nephro Boss Guide

Nephro, Captain of the Guard, is the first boss that you will meet in Another Crab's Treasure during the main quest line. To find the Nephro speak to the guards of the Duchess Magista's castle, who will give you directions and send you to talk with the boss.

Before the battle, you will get your first shell, and during the fight, you will learn the main aspects of the Soulslike game like blocking, dodging, and timing. The boss has 5 melee attacks and 1 special attack after he reaches 50% of health.

Nephro isn’t a powerful boss, but if you are new to Soulslike games, you may need several attempts to defeat him. So, in this guide you will learn how to find and beat Nephro boss!

How to Find Nephro Location?

Nephro is located in the Eastern part of The Shallow. Go to the entrance of the castle of Duchess Magista, and speak with 2 guards, who will ask you to find a shell to enter the castle.

They will give you the following guidance to find Nephro: turn right from the entrance and go straight until you find a huge vending machine.

Come closer to the machine and use some coins to get soda cans. These cans will be your first shell. Interact with one of the cans, and it will start a cutscene, after which you will meet a Nephro boss. You can't escape the fight, so, be ready for the battle.

Nephro Attacks

Nephro has 5 melee attacks, which have long attack radius. Here they are:

Attack	Description
Lance Swing	Nephro swings his Lance, dealing moderate damage. He will make this attack if you stay from the right side of the boss. The attack can be blocked by a shell or dodged.
Claw Swing	Nephro swings his claw, dealing moderate damage. The same as the previous attack, but the boss will make it if you stay on the left of him. The attack can be blocked by a shell or dodged.
Lance Charge	Nehpro holds his Lance in front of him and charges forward, dealing damage in an area, throwing away Kril if hit. You can dodge this attack or block it with your shell.
Back Attack	If you stay from behind the boss, Nephro will attack you with his back legs, dealing damage and throwing Krill away. It can be easily blocked or dodged.
Claw Grab	This is the most dangerous attack, which activates when the health of the boss is below 50%. Nephro grabs Krill with a claw and drags him along the sand. The attack is dealing huge damage and can't be blocked. You can only dodge it.

How to Beat Nephro Boss?

Nephro boss is a good opportunity to improve your fighting skills in Another Crab's Treasure. The main fight pattern is to block the boss attack, make 2-3 hits, block (or dodge), and repeat the process again.

Here are also some additional points to mention to beat Nephro:

Don't hesitate to use shells to block all the attacks of the Captain of the Guard. The shell's durability will get all the damage from the Nephro's attack, so you will save some health. You can change up to 5 shells during the fight, so don't try to save the durability of the shells.
Track the attack patterns of Nephro. He makes special moves or signs before each of the attacks. These signs are created to make you ready to dodge or block the attack. So, always try to block the attack beforehand.
Don't try to deal as much damage, as possible between Nephro attacks. This may be a wrong tactic in the long range. Try to make up to 2 attacks and then be ready to block or dodge the next attack of Nephro. This way you will fight with the boss longer, but you will definitely have enough time to avoid further attacks from the boss.
Try to attack the boss by a circle, to his left or right side. You will notice that the boss is walking around you, and can't trigger any of his attacks. This is because the boss is long, and not very agile.
Don't forget to use the stagger meter (yellow bar around the Nephro's health) when it is full. It allows you to knock off the boss and gives time to make several hits. However, if you don't have a good opportunity to use a strong attack to know Nephro, don't try to use it. Better to save some health, than to deal additional damage to the boss.
When Nephro's health falls below 50%, he starts using his strongest attack – Claw Grab. You can't block it, so you should be very attentive to it. The only way to avoid it is to dodge. Moreover, Nephro can use this attack several times in the fight.
If you can't beat Nephro and really annoyed with this fight, you can always give Kril a gun and kill Nephro in 1 shot.

Rewards from Nephro

After you defeat a boss Nephro, you will gain 750 Microplastics, and the ability to wear shells. Moreover, now you will start finding different shells all over the map.

There will be also a new Moon Snail near the place of your battle.
