Bonfire Studios, backed by publisher DRIMAGE, has announced their debut project — a fantasy PvP action game called Arkheron, developed under the leadership of former Blizzard Entertainment veterans.
The studio is led by former Blizzard creative director and lead World of Warcraft designer Rob Pardo, who founded Bonfire Studios in 2016 alongside former Blizzard art director Nick Carpenter and former Nexon America CEO Min Kim. To fuel business development and their first title's creation, the studio secured $25 million in funding from Riot Games and Andreessen Horowitz.
Gameplay Focus
Arkheron's gameplay centers on diverse squad battles in a battle royale format. Up to 15 teams of 3 players each can compete in a single match. The primary objective is defeating opponents and ascending the mysterious Tower, constructed from fragments of heroes' memories. The game features no predetermined roles or character classes, with each hero's potential determined by individual builds. Players can enhance and modify abilities through various equipment pieces.
According to the game's description, players fight their way up the Tower in "Ascension" mode, where only one team emerges victorious. Players battle monsters, challenge rival teams, and capture floor after floor while racing against time. With each successful Ascension, player count decreases until only three teams remain at the summit to fight for victory before the Tower resets for a new cycle.
The Tower transforms memories into powerful weapons and abilities called relics. Each collected relic can alter playstyle, allowing strategic adaptation on the fly. Players can gather complete four-relic sets to become Eternal and unlock a fifth game-changing ability, or create unique builds by mixing relics from different sets, swapping them as new ones are found, and gaining set bonuses with customizable synergies.
