Aspyr Media has released The Lord of the Rings: War in the North — Legacy Edition without any prior announcement.
The original game launched in 2011 on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, then disappeared from digital storefronts when publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's license expired. Aspyr has now brought it back across all current platforms.
The game runs parallel to the events of The Fellowship of the Ring, following three heroes sent north to stop Agandaur — a Black Númenórean lieutenant of Sauron who has assembled a massive army in the ruins of Fornost. The campaign supports solo play or 3-player co-op, both local and online.
The three playable characters are Eradan, a Dúnedain ranger who favors swords and bows; Andriel, an elven loremaster who mixes healing magic with AoE spells; and Farin, a dwarf champion built around heavy armor and two-handed weapons. Players visit locations including Rivendell, Lothlórien, the Lonely Mountain, and Mirkwood, and encounter Aragorn, Gandalf, and Elrond along the way.
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North — Legacy Edition is available on PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
