Atomic Owl Hits Consoles on May 20

Atomic Owl

Eastasiasoft and Monster Theater have announced that Atomic Owl arrives on Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch on May 20. The game has been available on PC via Steam since last year, where it holds 95% positive reviews.

The console version brings rebalanced gameplay, bug fixes, and additional options. The headline addition is NO ROGUELITE mode, which strips out roguelike elements and turns the game into a more traditional side-scroller.

Atomic Owl blends fast platforming with hack-and-slash combat. Players follow a bird named Hidalgo and a talking sword on a mission to rescue allies and take down a villain called Omega Wing. Eight procedurally structured zones, a variety of weapons ranging from swords to whips, and between-run upgrades make up the core loop. Some segments let the hero fly, and in combat, Hidalgo can transform into the powerful Raven of the Abyss.

Steam players highlight the game's balance of nostalgia and modern design — it feels like a classic side-scroller but with tighter mechanics and more combat depth. The pixel art, neon-futuristic locations, and synthwave soundtrack are frequently called out as standouts. The main criticism is difficulty — deaths come often, which will appeal to some and put off others.

A 25% Steam discount runs through March 26.
