Mods on console versions of Baldur’s Gate 3 are so popular that Larian had to set a limit on the number of mods that can be active at the same time. The developers announced this in the description of a recent hotfix that only visited PS5 and Xbox Series.
The studio explained that consoles, unlike PCs, cannot handle a large array of user content. And the more mods are installed, the faster the available limit is exhausted. A set exceeding a hundred working modifications just crosses the line, which is why users begin to suffer from long loading times and crashes. To protect players from these troubles, Larian introduced the limit.
Players who have already exceeded the mod limit won't be able to load their console saves after the update — a fix addressing this issue will be available soon. If a player uses cross-saves with the PC version, they can unlock console gameplay on their own. To do this, they need to disable excess mods on PC and create a new save.
Earlier, Larian announced that the total number of mod downloads for Baldur's Gate 3 has surpassed 50 million.
