Two years ago, Larian Studios released Baldur's Gate 3, and now the team is celebrating the RPG's birthday. During this time, the game has grown into something much more than just a continuation of the cult series. The community didn't just embrace this world — they transformed it to suit themselves, and the developers make no secret of their pride in the players.
Modding Revolution Takes Off
Since September 2024, when official mod support was added to the game, over 8,500 user modifications have appeared on the mod.io platform. Their combined download count has exceeded 265 million. Withers Big Naturals — one of the most popular mods — has been downloaded over 250,000 times.
In July, a fan community-organized event took place. 85 creators made over 160 new mods, which were downloaded more than 150,000 times. Surreal abilities, duck earrings, Gale's underwear as weapons — participants' imaginations knew no bounds. Larian promises to expand modding tools and keep track of players' creativity.

This year, the studio decided to share less obvious data than last time. For example, 1.1 million players completed Baldur's Gate 3 in Tactician Mode, nearly half a million gamers conquered Larian Studios' project in Honour Mode, and some did it particularly inventively — 4,647 skilled madmen reached the credits with a level one character.
And in photo mode, players create real madness: rabbits, butts, heroes in unexpected poses, and even references to classics. Larian publishes the best shots on their social media.
What's Next?
The studio team continues streams featuring developers who talk about the game creation process. And in September, Larian will head to PAX West in Seattle.
Meanwhile, Larian Studios head Swen Vincke shared a bit about the studio's future project. Based on his words, don't expect Baldur's Gate 3 in new packaging.

It seems the next project will be significantly different from Baldur's Gate 3. Fans speculate that one of the RPGs in development is a new Divinity entry, but even if that's true, Larian is clearly preparing something unconventional. Who knows, maybe the studio will even move away from turn-based and party-based gameplay.
In any case, the focus has already shifted to new games: patch eight became the final major update for Baldur's Gate 3, and now its development mainly lies in the hands of the modding community.
