Carmageddon: Rogue Shift — Release Date, Trailer and More Details

Carmageddon Rogue Shift

Developers at 34BigThings visited the PlayStation Blog to announce the release date for roguelite racing game Carmageddon: Rogue Shift — February 6. Interested parties can also learn additional project details.

Post-Apocalyptic Racing for Survival

As a reminder, Rogue Shift is a survival racing game. The action occurs in a post-apocalyptic world with zombie crowds called the Hollowed. At night, they fill the streets of dead cities, forcing people to hide somewhere high. But there's another path — victory in a series of deadly races grants passage to the last spaceship for escape from the dying world.

Key Details from PS Blog

Players begin their Carmageddon: Rogue Shift journey as a faceless racer with a rusty heap instead of a car and makeshift weapons. Participating in dangerous races unlocks unique items unavailable to ordinary mortals. Earn credits, battle opponents, and flatten the Hollowed.

15 Unique Vehicles

The garage features 15 vehicles, each unique with different drive systems, weight, suspension settings, tire pressure, steering response, and more. According to Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, Design Head at 34BigThings, the team wanted to create a refined gameplay loop with fast, accessible, but definitely not simplified controls at the foundation. Your car here is fortress, shelter, and primary weapon — essentially the game's main character.

Extensive Customization

Steel steeds have access to 13 weapon classes and over 80 perks. Combining elements allows flexible vehicle customization. For example, turning one shot into a volley of dozens of rockets or making explosions around you repair your car. However, opponents aren't just cruising alongside — they'll try to eliminate as many rivals as possible. Therefore, maintaining balance between speed, attack, and defense is crucial. Boss battles are also included.

Procedural Generation and Roguelite Progression

Thanks to randomly generated track systems in Rogue Shift, no race resembles the previous one. Meanwhile, the roguelite component guarantees retention of permanent bonuses and improvements unlocked in previous runs. Difficulty increases dynamically.

Zombie Origin Story

Regarding zombies, in Rogue Shift's world they emerged as follows: wars and natural disasters led to mass starvation. To solve this problem, corporations created the MiVis food supplement. It genuinely accomplished its task but ultimately led to greater disaster — prolonged MiVis intake caused cellular mutations. The more supplement a person consumed, the more they degraded. Corporations hid MiVis's dangerous effects until too late. People began transforming into mutants, while the most active MiVis consumers became horrifying monsters sharing nothing with ordinary humans. One such super-monster guards the path to the spaceport.

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift launches February 6 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
