Publisher Kepler Interactive and developers Sandfall Interactive have prepared a short demo of gameplay for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The clip covers an area closer to the beginning of the game, when the expedition has already managed to cover part of the way.
Recall that in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the Artist awakens from her sleep once a year to write a number on her monolith. Anyone whose age matches this number turns to dust and disappears from the world forever. Every year the number decreases and soon the Artist will wake up to write the number 33. The protagonists of the game joined Expedition 33 to destroy the Artist who brings death.
The video shows the Floating Waters region. Here, Gustave and Luna hope to find Mael, another member of the expedition. The couple needs to study the environment and find clues to pick up the girl's trail. Along the way, the heroes will encounter monsters with whom they will not be able to part peacefully. Characters can hit with simple blows, dodge and parry attacks. Special skills cause a lot of damage, but to perform them, you need to have time to press a kind of QTE. Bosses also have aces up their sleeves, such as unique mechanics.
The group leader (and the character you play as) can be changed at any time in free exploration mode. Each member of the expedition is allowed to change their hairstyles and outfits.
According to the developers, they paid a lot of attention to the storytelling through the environment. Players will encounter many destroyed structures, overgrown paths and the remains of previous expeditions. The 68th expedition met its end in the same Floating Waters. After examining the environment, you can understand how exactly the squad died.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will go to PC (Steam, EGS), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, including Game Pass, in 2025.
