Remedy Entertainment has invited press to preview Control Resonant, an action RPG sequel to Control. The new protagonist is Dylan Faden — Jesse's brother — while Jesse herself has gone missing after the Hiss escaped the Oldest House and began tearing through New York.
Combat & Gameplay
This is not a soulslike. The game is built around an offensive, aggressive playstyle — the player controls the fight, not the other way around. The closest references are Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, not Ninja Gaiden.
Dylan's shapeshifting weapon, the Aberrant, is fully customizable from inside the protagonist's own mind — players choose a primary form, secondary form, and a finisher form for combo chains. A talent tree and Resonant abilities — unlocked by defeating boss-tier Resonants — round out the build options. Dylan can deploy a telekinetic shield or summon allied creatures, among other powers. Abilities consume a resource bar that refills by landing hits.
World & Structure
Manhattan is divided into several zones, each transformed by the paranormal chaos in its own way. The result is not an open world but an open-structured, nonlinear one — inspired by the distinct floor-by-floor feel of the Oldest House. The updated Northlight Engine brings greater draw distances, wider spaces, and more enemies on screen. Dylan can hover briefly and manipulate gravity to dodge attacks or navigate rooftops.
Story & Characters
A key new character is Zoé de Vera, a FBC field agent serving as Dylan's handler. She survived the chaos outside while Dylan spent years locked inside the Oldest House. Their dynamic — trust, responsibility, reliance — is framed as the emotional core of the story. Dialogue plays out seamlessly during exploration without interrupting movement. Dialogue choices won't significantly affect the plot, and there appears to be only one ending. Playing as Jesse is not possible, confirmed by Remedy's communications director Thomas Puha.
The game features a main campaign alongside standalone world quests and various secrets. The goal, per Remedy, is to explore on your own terms rather than clear a checklist.
Control Resonant launches in 2026 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
