Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss Overview Trailer Shows Off Investigation and Horror Mechanics

Cthulhu The Cosmic Abyss

Big Bad Wolf has released a 4-minute gameplay overview trailer for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, a Lovecraftian psychological horror detective game launching April 16 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.

The game is set in 2053, when humanity has begun mining the ocean floor. One expedition uncovers more than resources — the sunken city of R'lyeh, where Cthulhu lies dormant. Players take on the role of Noah, an agent of a secret Interpol division specializing in occult cases, who arrives at an underwater station with his AI companion Ki to investigate the disappearance of its crew.

The Trailer Covers The Core Mechanics

Clue Analysis — players examine and interact with objects to gather evidence and advance the investigation. Each analysis reveals the object's composition and unlocks new sonar frequencies to track similar elements.

Energy Management — environmental analysis consumes energy, which must be spent carefully.

The Vault — a database storing all discovered clues and documents, used for cross-referencing evidence and solving puzzles.

Sonar — a multi-purpose tool for navigating darkness, finding hidden passages, and detecting things invisible to the naked eye.

Artifacts and Upgrades — strange artifacts found during the investigation can upgrade Noah's tools, though each upgrade comes with a cost.

Corruption Meter — every action and decision can raise Noah's corruption level, gradually pushing him toward madness. The meter directly affects the course and outcome of the investigation.
