Fulqrum Publishing released SkyFallen Entertainment's 2005 action RPG Dawn of Magic on Steam on October 1, 2026, the game's first appearance on the platform. The new version supports modern displays and adds several Steam features, but the game underneath is the one players got in 2005.
What the Steam Version Adds
The Steam edition includes:
- native support for modern resolutions;
- ultrawide support with repositioned UI elements;
- an option to restore the original UI layout with Ctrl+F12;
- a longer maximum camera zoom;
- Steam Achievements;
- Steam Cloud;
- Steam Workshop;
- Family Sharing;
- font and control adjustments for Steam Deck;
- partial controller support.
- Multiplayer covers LAN PvP and LAN co-op.
The game launched without Steam Deck Verified status, even with the Deck-specific changes.
Fulqrum says it will keep tracking technical issues and player feedback and plans more updates. It is also bringing the same improvements to Dawn of Magic 2, though it hasn't announced a release date.
The Gameplay is Unchanged
The Steam release keeps the original content and core gameplay: real-time combat, quests, loot, and character progression.
Players pick one of four protagonists (the Absent-Minded Schoolboy, the Baker's Wife, the Strange Gypsy, or the Fat Monk) and aren't tied to a traditional character class.
Character development is built around 12 schools of magic. Players develop and combine spells and abilities through scrolls, runes, tattoos, and equipment. A character's appearance changes with the magic they master, and those changes can also affect stats, resistances, and combat abilities.
Dawn of Magic is 20% off at launch through October 15, 2026. The current Steam package can't be bought or activated in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or Puerto Rico.
