Capcom has Announced a Remaster of Dead Rising

Dead Rising Remaster

Dead Rising was an experimental Capcom game that became a series, but eventually ended in 2016 on a rather poor fourth installment. Eight years later, the franchise is being given another chance, with Capcom announcing a new version of the first Dead Rising.

The release date and platforms are not named (but it seems that there will be only the current generation of devices - this is indicated by the phrase in the teaser: Coming to the newest generation of platforms).

Details about the Dead Rising remaster are scarce at the moment:

  • The re-release is called Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.
  • The extent of the changes is not specified.
  • The teaser shows an updated opening scene from the original.
  • Despite the word Remaster, the changes are clearly more than the average remaster: the teaser shows seriously improved models and modern lighting.

The main character of Dead Rising is a photojournalist Frank West, who finds himself in a shopping center filled with zombies. He must hold out for three days, until the helicopter arrives, and solve the mystery of the apocalypse. The original offered a strict time limit and different endings depending on the conditions met. One of the gameplay features was that various commonplace items could be grabbed and used as weapons.

The original Dead Rising was released on Xbox 360 in September 2006 and received positive reviews from players and the press. In September 2016 Dead Rising was re-released on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 with various minor improvements.
