Byte Barrel has announced DIOXIDE, a tactical first-person shooter with soulslike elements set in a dystopian future. No release date has been set. A demo is planned for Q3 2026.
The game takes place in a megacity crumbling under industrial decay and corporate rule. The protagonist acquires a Core-ID module that allows revival after death, immediately making them a target for the authorities and setting the stage for resistance.
Players explore several distinct city districts — smoky industrial complexes, toxic slums, and guarded elite quarters — each with lethal threats and resources needed to progress. Mass-produced hunters and enforcers are designed to crush any opposition.
Key features include a deep weapon modification system with modules and upgrades, base building and development of a secret survivor hideout that serves as an operations hub, and moral dilemmas driven by resource scarcity — players must decide whether to help their community or prioritize personal gain.
The studio describes DIOXIDE as an evolution of their signature comic book visual style, now fully realized in 3D rather than the 2D/3D hybrid used in Forgive Me Father.
DIOXIDE is coming to PC via Steam.
