The new DOOM: The Dark Ages Patch 2.2 is out now across all platforms. id Software has added Steam Deck support, fixed numerous bugs, and boosted performance and stability.
The Dark Ages now has official Steam Deck “Verified” status, ensuring full compatibility with Valve’s handheld. On first launch, the game auto-selects optimal settings, with options for further customization and a new benchmark mode for portable PCs.
Approximate Performance on Handhelds
- Steam Deck: 720p, ~30 fps
- Z1 chip devices (e.g., ASUS ROG Ally): 720p, ~30 fps
- Z1E chip devices (e.g., ASUS ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go): 1080p, ~30 fps
- Z2A chip devices (e.g., XBOX ROG Ally): 720p, ~30 fps
- Z2E chip devices (e.g., XBOX ROG Ally X): 1080p, ~60 fps
The patch fixes issues in levels, boss fights, and damage calculations, resolving infinite enemy respawns, rare crashes, and melee/shield mechanics. Balance changes include reduced damage from large demons like Hell Knights and Cosmic Barons, preventing one-hit shield breaks on high difficulty. The Brink of Death system, allowing survival after lethal damage, has been tweaked to align closer to its launch version.
Audio, UI, and visual effects also see upgrades, with fixes for special effects, animations, and collectibles, plus enhancements to the Ripatorium mode.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is available on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store, Battle.net), Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and Game Pass.
