Valve scanned Dota 2's hero pool with an appraising eye and concluded that among the diverse rogues, wizards, druids, and knights, one class was missing — the bard. Enter Largo — a frog with a musical instrument and a support role character. Developers also rolled out update 7.40.
Born Among Bard Shamans
According to developers, Largo grew up among bard shamans on the living island of Velu'Mar. This landmass is so ancient it communicates with inhabitants only through songs, which is why Largo has such a strong connection to music. Together with a troupe of frog students, he set out on a journey to find inspiration for new melodies. More about Largo's past can be found in the comic.
Musical Support Abilities
As a Dota 2 character, Largo empowers allies with music and removes effects with his long, sticky tongue. Frog companions don't stand idle either, helping in battle. Brief ability overview:
- First skill slightly pulls a target toward Largo and applies normal dispel, dealing damage if it's an enemy. Dispelling at least one effect increases the bard's health regeneration.
- Frogstomp throws froglets into a selected area where they slow enemies and briefly stun opponents once per second.
- Croak of Genius plays a melody for an ally, reducing their item and ability mana costs.
- Ultimate: Amphibian Rhapsody — Largo begins a performance but loses attack capability. All abilities during the ult transform into three songs: one increases ally spell damage, another boosts ally movement speed, and the third heals nearby allies.
Patch 7.40 Changes
Update 7.40 opened the winter treasure chest with sets for Tiny, Enigma, Ringmaster, and others. Valve implemented balance changes, map landscape adjustments, and more. Here are some examples (full patch notes available here):
- Lone Druid's Spirit Bear gained its own talent tree, Slark received an ability to steal health regeneration and movement speed, and Treant Protector's Leech Seed became even more dangerous.
- Three new items added and three old ones removed (Helm of the Undying, Sister's Shroud, Pyrrhic Cloak).
- The map underwent cosmetic renovations in certain spots like the bridge between Radiant and Dire forces, both sides' wisdom shrines, and protective gates.
Monster Hunter Collaboration
Valve also reminded players about the Dota 2 and Monster Hunter collaboration. The MOBA event features six new hero sets inspired by classic Monster Hunter armor sets, plus other items.
