Dragon Age: The Veilguard Specializations and Factions

Game Informer continues to report on the features of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The latest installment looks at the three classes and six factions available in the game, and how they will affect the protagonist and his adventure.

Classes and Specializations

  • While creating a character, players will not only select the desired appearance but also decide on the faction and class. Once the process is complete, only the appearance can be changed - the transformation mirror, which is located in the hub location, is useful for this.
  • In "Dragon Age: Guardians of the Veil" three classes - warrior, bandit, and mage. For each of them, BioWare specialists prepared a unique combat system, as a result of which the style of the game changes. For classes also created several specializations, when developing which the difference between the representatives of different directions will become even more noticeable. Specializations are opened as the character is pumped up.
  • Let's take a closer look at the classes and their specializations:
  • A warrior can become a Reaper with otherworldly skills and night blades that draw life out of enemies. Another specialization path leads to the Slayer, a two-handed weapon expert. The third specialization is the Champion, who plays defense.
  • A mage with the Death Caller specialization practices necromancy. The Evoker is an Evoker who casts fire, cold, and lightning, while the Spellblade specialization allows you to use enchanted melee weapons.
  • The Dueling Bandit with dual swords is the fastest of the class specializations. The Saboteur is skilled with traps, and his arsenal is full of tricks. The Veil Ranger relies on the bow and favors ranged combat.

Factions

  • The faction determines the protagonist's backstory: who he was before, how he met Varric and why he is traveling with him and not with his faction, and so on. In addition, the choice of faction determines the protagonist's last name.
  • The set of factions looks like this: Grey Wardens, Antivan Crows, Mourn Watch, Lords of Fortune, Shadow Dragons, and Veil Jumpers. The first two had previously appeared in other Dragon Age titles, while the others were migrated from the short story collection Tevinter Nights and other media.
  • Each faction has its own casual clothing, which the character wears in certain cutscenes, and three characteristics. For example, a member of the Lords of Fate gains more reputation points in this pirate faction, deals more damage to mercenaries, and has a bonus for assassinations.
  • The protagonist in The Veilguard does not save the world alone, but is assisted by companions and factions. If you help them, they will not stay in debt. Each faction has its own problems and challenges that fit into their theme. As BioWare noted, you won't have to collect a bunch of random resources before saving the world.
  • All companions presented in the game are members of one of the above-mentioned factions.
