Exodus Gets Steam Page—Check Out the New Q&A Session

Exodus 1

Archetype Entertainment studio continues to gradually introduce players to Exodus, their debut third-person action-RPG set in a sci-fi universe, developed by BioWare veterans. Notably, the team is led by former BioWare creative director James Ohlen, with the story penned by lead writer of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the first two Mass Effect games, Drew Karpyshyn.

After a couple of years since the announcement, the developers have finally launched Exodus pages on Steam and Epic Games Store, allowing interested gamers to wishlist the title. The same goes for Sony and Microsoft online stores. Meanwhile, studio co-founder Chad Robertson and Exodus game director Chris King addressed a series of frequently asked questions, revealing additional details about the game:

  • Developers drew inspiration not only from Mass Effect but also from other studios' titles. In the video, they highlighted Horizon: Zero Dawn for similar gameplay mechanics and Metroid Prime for its exploration elements.
  • For the protagonist's futuristic weapons and tools, the team focused on a "Swiss Army knife" concept, combining multiple functions. As an example, King cited the Recycler—a versatile rifle that recycles gathered materials into ammo and transforms, letting players experiment with combat styles.
  • Exodus can be played stealthily if desired, with full stealth mechanics, skills, and gear. Plus, a couple of companions are stealth-oriented.
  • The protagonist's main goal is to collect Celestials' tech—genetically modified humans who have evolved far beyond standard humanity. This tech could advance human civilization but also harbors destruction potential. Thus, much of the story hinges on the hero's decisions regarding collected artifacts.
  • Despite supernatural abilities from implanted Celestial DNA, protagonist June retains humanity to help players connect and craft a hero with virtues and flaws. Like Shepard in Mass Effect, June has a set backstory, but players choose gender and appearance.
  • According to the devs, the combat system is another avenue for player expression. With diverse skills, gamers can pick styles like direct shootouts, stealth, or tactical tool use. Third-person fights are promised to be spectacular and cinematic.
  • Enemy variety ramps up as you progress, with June's team battling humanoids, constructs, monsters, and more.
  • Developers don't view side content as filler. Instead, side quests deepen character development and world-building, with special attention to their crafting. Of course, rewards include unique gear, weapons, abilities, and more.

Exodus is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Release is slated for 2026.
