Fallen Tear: The Ascension Early Access Launches March 17

Fallen Tear The Ascension

Winter Crew Studios has announced that their debut metroidvania, Fallen Tear: The Ascension, is hitting Steam Early Access on March 17. The game blends classic metroidvania gameplay with JRPG mechanics and roguelike elements into one ambitious package.

The story follows Hira — a mysterious child destined to battle ancient gods. Early Access launches with roughly 15–20 hours of content spread across ten locations, six main bosses, and three optional ones. True to the genre, players will journey through diverse lands, recruit allies, and unlock a wide arsenal of combat skills as they push deeper into the world.

The game takes place on Raoa, a living, ever-shifting map that transforms based on Hira's actions. Players can dig into hand-crafted 2D visuals, full voice acting, and secrets tucked into every corner of the world. The JRPG influences show up in meaningful ways — you'll find companions scattered across Raoa and bring their combined strength into battle, rather than just leveling up a lone hero. Hidden paths, enemy attack patterns, and layered mechanics round out the experience for players who love to dig deep.

No word yet on how long the Early Access period will last. Once the full release drops, the game is also coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. A free demo is available right now if you want to try before you buy.
