The Escalation of Freedom update for Helldivers 2 didn't launch the best. That's why the Arrowhead Studios team announced a 60-day change plan. Today, the final update in the program was released, and the studio summed up its results.

Arrowhead game director Mikael Eriksson thanked the community for their feedback, calling it valuable and necessary for improvements. Since mid-August, Helldivers 2 has received several patches that touched on a number of aspects of the game, such as weapon balance, enemy behavior, and performance. Arrowhead has also improved its internal systems. "Automated testing has improved and our engine team has grown to ensure long-term stability and a smooth gameplay experience." - said Eriksson.

The latest update has made changes to the remaining weapons and stratagems, fixed the main systems, increased the armor strength of the Hell Marines, made the game against automatons less annoying, and more. You can read the full patch notes here, but we have selected the most interesting points:

  • Additional supplies are now visible on the minimap.
  • Light and heavy armor has become more effective: heavy armor now reduces damage taken by 25% instead of 20%, and light armor increases damage taken by only 25% instead of 33%.
  • After the update, the logic for patrols appearing in the interval after the mission is completed, but before evacuation, will change. Patrols will begin to concentrate around the departure point.
  • From now on, all plasma projectiles experience high resistance, which causes their fast flight to slow down. According to the team, this change will not be noticeable for most weapons.
  • PLAS-1 "Scorcher" received a new function with an automatic fire mode.
  • For AR-61 "Softener", additional firing modes of 850 or 600 rounds per minute were prepared.
  • The GR-8 "Recoilless Rifle" now has programmable ammunition - now you can switch between regular and high-explosive shells.
  • Anti-Tank Mines are now only triggered by heavy enemies like Charges, Bile Titans, Impalers, and Hulks.
  • Automatons are no longer super-sensitive, so they will no longer ignore fog effects or shoot at players through walls and cover.
  • Boulder Crusher's new guns have been taken away and their old rocket launchers have been returned.

This is not the end of support for Helldivers 2. The action game will continue to receive patches, but now the developers promise to be more open with the community. In other Helldivers 2 news, the shooter is up for three Golden Joystick Awards 2024. Voting is still open.
