Today, shooter Highguard receives a major update tied to season two's start — here they're called episodes. Players get a new playable hero, map, another mount, and more. Additionally, studio Wildlight Entertainment shared a cinematic trailer for the game.
Blur Studio Partnership
First, briefly about the video: it was created in partnership with Blur Studio, which animated the "Love, Death & Robots" anthology and created cinematic sequences for Call of Duty series games, BloodRayne, and more.
In the footage, Highguard's creators provided more lore: a long-vanished continent has returned to its place, and now adventurers journey there seeking riches and secrets. A group of daredevils storms an enemy base, then discovers a mysterious artifact. The trailer turned out quite spectacular, with comments reasonably noting it should have been shown at release. For now, the studio has a "backwards advertising campaign."
Season 2 Contents:
Ekon Hero — The roster gains Ekon, a legendary monster hunter capable of transforming into a wolf to track prey. In beast form, Ekon runs faster than any mount and attacks with fangs. The fighter's passive ability allows hearing wounded opponents' heartbeats, while the ultimate applies a fear effect to all enemies on the map and increases Ekon's movement speed.
Ranked Mode — 3v3 battles with seven ranks, each divided into three levels. All players start from "Bronze 3" rank. At each episode's end, players receive bonuses corresponding to earned rating.
New Map and Mount — Skydrift map and new wolf mount. Playing ten ranked matches rewards an alternative wolf skin.
Plus numerous fixes, improvements, and optimizations. For example, added statistics menu and NVIDIA Reflex technology support to reduce input latency. Full patch notes available here.
Highguard is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as free-to-play. The project's Steam reviews remain "Mixed" (44%). Further studio plans can be read here.
