Former Gearbox Software, Riot Games, Blizzard, Epic Games and Monolith Productions have introduced the Ruckus Games studio. The team has already talked about their debut work.
The company has only just announced itself, but it was founded back in 2021. The studio's office is located in Frisco, Texas. The CEO position is held by Paul Sage, the creative director of Borderlands 3 and The Elder Scrolls Online.
Ruckus Games has received $19 million in funding. According to the press release, the team managed to interest investors with a small vertical slice of the game, which was created by 14 people in just a year. The following is known about the project:
- Genre: third-person shooter. There are RPG, crafting, and construction mechanics.
- The plot tells of a mysterious invasion of an American suburb.
- Co-op for up to four users is supported.
- The authors promise a wide selection of playable characters and thousands of improvised weapons, such as a toaster that shoots circular saws and a flamethrower made from a pressure washer.
- A hub is mentioned where players will create and improve equipment. NPCs they rescue will also go there.
- Scott Kester is the action game's art director. According to Ruckus Games, he played a key role in the transformation of Borderlands - initially, the Gearbox shooter was dark and realistic, but later the visual style was changed to bright and comic-like.
- The developers intend to take into account community feedback from the early stages. On their website, the team is already accepting applications for participation in the playtest, which will start in early 2025.
- After the release, the action will be supplied with updates.
"We want games that are fun from the very first second. Games that are active and energetic, where you can just hang out with friends. We can't wait to show you what we've got in store," - declared Paul Sage, Game Director and CEO of Ruckus Games.
The project name, release dates and list of platforms will be revealed later.
