Nine Dots Studio has delayed the Early Access launch of Outward 2 from July 7 to next year.
Creative director Guillaume Boucher-Vidal explained that sticking rigidly to the original plan risked disappointing players, and feedback from open beta testers suggested the sequel needed more time.
He apologized to anyone who had taken time off specifically to play Outward 2, noting it would be worse if longtime fans spent their free time on an underwhelming follow-up. The team's stated goal is to ensure a meaningful gap in quality between the beta and the Early Access launch, to maintain the trust earned with the original Outward community.
An open beta for Outward 2 runs on Steam through June 22. Early Access will also launch on Epic Games Store and GOG.
