About 1,600 days later, Mark Cerny is back on air to talk about Sony's new console. The improved version of the PlayStation 5 is called the PS5 Pro. "It's the most powerful console we've ever made and a worthy addition to the PS5 family," Cerny boasted.
PS5 Pro Trailer and Details
According to Cerny, 75% of the time players prefer the performance mode, so Sony engineers tried to eliminate the need to choose between modes or at least narrow the difference between them. Gamers will be able to enjoy the highest level of graphics in the form that was intended by developers, with an increased frame rate.
To achieve this, the PS5 Pro focuses on three components: an increased video processor, improved ray tracing technology, and AI upscaling.
- The PS5 Pro graphics accelerator has 67% more computing elements than the regular PS5, and 28% faster memory. Thanks to this, rendering speed is increased by 45%.
- Ray tracing works two to three times better than on the basic PS5.
- The developers have added PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to Pro — Sony's own AI upscaler. It provides ultra-sharp picture quality and increases the number of details in the frame.
- PS5 Pro Game Boost is a system that allows you to improve the performance of PS5 and PS4 games via backward compatibility on PS5 Pro. More than 8,500 titles are supported.
- The console is equipped with Wi-Fi 7, VRR and 8K support. There is also a 2 TB SSD hidden inside. The PS5 Pro Digital version is sold in the boxes, but you can buy a drive separately. A vertical stand is not included.
- Many games will receive special patches to take advantage of the PS5 Pro features. They can be identified by the logo with the inscription PS5 Pro Enhanced. The list includes Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered and others.
- Users will be able to change the Pro version’s side panels when they go on sale.
- The device is compatible with PS5 peripherals such as PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge and the Pulse Elite headset.
The PS5 Pro will go on sale on November 7 for $699 and €799. Pre-orders start on September 26.
