Mega Crit Games, creators of the acclaimed deck-building roguelike Slay the Spire, have announced a delay for the sequel's early access window. Slay the Spire 2 was originally planned for release by the end of this year, but the launch has now been moved to March 2026.
The developers clarified that the delay has nothing to do with the recent release of Hollow Knight: Silksong. They explained that this decision was made well before Team Cherry announced their long-awaited title's release date. The delay of Slay the Spire 2 stems from multiple factors, with the developers noting they simply need more time to deliver their vision.
Mega Crit Games explained that after extensive discussions, they decided to postpone Slay the Spire 2's early access launch to one of the Thursdays in March 2026. The studio acknowledged these weren't the news everyone was hoping for, admitting they're eager to let players try the game. While they initially targeted a late 2025 release, they miscalculated their timeline and need additional development time. The developers noted there's no single cause for the delay – life threw some curveballs their way (though everyone's healthy), and they may have been overly ambitious with their feature wishlist. They candidly admitted the game doesn't yet meet their standards.
To soften the blow, the studio revealed one of the sequel's new features – alternative acts. Slay the Spire 2 will offer more nonlinear progression through diverse acts featuring unique enemies. For example, Act 1A takes place in overgrown ruins, while Act 1B leads players through swampland toward the Spire's sewers. New variants unlock as players progress through the game.
Slay the Spire 2 will initially launch only on PC via Steam, with developers gradually expanding to other platforms after the full release. The duration of early access remains undetermined.
