Publisher indie.io and developer Cosmoscouts have announced that the sci-fi first-person shooter Moon Mystery will launch on Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 on September 18, priced at $19.99. The game is already available on PC, where it launched on October 28, 2024.
In Moon Mystery, players take on the role of an astronaut stranded alone after losing contact with Earth. The vast lunar wasteland serves as just the starting point for an interstellar journey filled with dangers, puzzles, and alien worlds.
The story revolves around the first lunar base, where everything went horribly wrong. The only help in unraveling the mystery of the previous expedition comes from an AI – the sole "survivor" at the station. Players won't be alone for long though, as malfunctioning robots and far more sinister creatures lurk in the station's dark corridors.
Players will tackle diverse challenges, navigate platforming sections, and pilot various vehicles ranging from lunar rovers and submarines to spacecraft. Survival means scavenging for oxygen tanks, using your wits, and maintaining deadly accuracy with your weapons.
Moon Mystery currently holds "Mixed" reviews on Steam with 68% positive feedback. Players describe it as a visually stunning but polarizing project: the gunplay is satisfying, locations look impressive and offer vehicle variety, but the experience is marred by empty levels, weak storytelling, and questionable localization.
Some praise the developers' efforts, interesting lore, and easy achievements, while others criticize poor optimization, repetitive gameplay, and disappointment compared to expectations. Overall, it's being recommended as a decent shooter for a few evenings of entertainment, but many suggest waiting for a sale rather than paying full price.
The game is currently available on PC via Steam.
