Still Wakes The Deep Game Release

The Chinese Room has made a name for itself with walking simulators like Dear Esther, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, and Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. Now the company is spearheading the production of the big RPG Bloodlines 2, but continues to perform in the usual genre - today The Chinese Room released a linear adventure Still Wakes the Deep.

The setting is the 1970s, the cold North Sea off the coast of Scotland. The main character is a worker on an offshore oil rig. A terrible storm has begun, communication with the mainland is lost, and there is nowhere to escape from the tower. To the horror of all the inhabitants, an unimaginable something penetrated the tower...

The authors created a thick atmosphere of disaster with a good picture, a symphony of awe and admiration, a harsh sea, and an implacable enemy. You don’t have any weapons - only ingenuity and courage. The passage will take about six hours.

Critics are mostly praising Still Wakes the Deep - at the time of writing the news, the average score is 74 out of 100 on Metacritic. The reviews call the entourage fantastically good, and praise the overall emotionality of the story.

However, many reviewers add that the game was too linear and primitive in terms of gameplay. For example, here's what the Eurogamer staffer writes (gave it a three out of five):

"Still Wakes the Deep is admirable in so many of the things it takes on, that you're left frustrated at how much it's undercut by the hand-wringing gameplay design. I suspect that for many, the gorgeous artistry will prove engaging enough, intriguing enough, impressive enough, and emotional enough to forgive all the flaws. But I - and I say this with pain - have never before been so enraptured by a game that I didn't enjoy."

There aren't many ratings on Steam yet, but there are no red flags to be seen there: at the time of writing this news, Still Wakes the Deep has 85% positive reviews. We didn't see mass complaints about optimization, bugs, or other pronounced problems in user comments.

Still Wakes the Deep is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. The game has also been released on Game Pass. Official website.
