In early 2024, independent studio Keen Games released the early access version of Enshrouded — a fantasy survival game with action-RPG elements. Following a successful launch, the developers have delighted audiences with several major updates, and just hours ago, the game received another substantial patch called Wake of the Water.
As before, developers deliver fresh content and numerous improvements to existing game elements. Key additions include:
- New tropical biome featuring dense jungles and deep lakes. Players can discover numerous new items, weapons (including massive two-handed swords), building materials, armor, saplings, decorative objects, spells, and crafting materials. Developers also highlighted new enemy types, various quests, animals, survivors, structures, and more. The maximum character level has been raised to 45, with new skills added to progression.
- Expanded water bodies across all biomes. Players can now swim and dive into rivers and lakes searching for treasures. This ability is available immediately after installing the update. Underwater combat is disabled, so developers recommend avoiding hostile lizards.
- Players can redirect water flows, creating new channels and waterways at will. Building entire underwater bases is now possible. Certain new crops can only grow underwater.
- Fishing system introduced. Players can catch fish in any open water body using any bait. However, the most interesting fish inhabit specific locations and require special bait. The first fishing rod can be crafted in the crafting menu, while improved fishing gear is purchased from huntress Athalan Skree and a new fishing-specialized survivor found in the new biome, who also helps select optimal bait.
Currently, Enshrouded's early access version has over 84,000 Steam reviews with 86% positive. Full release is planned for spring 2026, when the game will also launch on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
