The Blood of Dawnwalker Gets a Big October Patch

Next Dawnwalker Game

Rebel Wolves is preparing the first big post-launch patch for The Blood of Dawnwalker, currently planned for early October 2026. Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz described several of the changes in an interview with Eurogamer. They include a new easier difficulty, better combat targeting, easier escapes from fights, and more PC optimization.

The update raises the number of difficulty options from four to five. The current Story setting will get a new name, and a new Story mode will become the easiest option, meant for players who mainly care about the narrative. Rebel Wolves hasn't settled on the new name for the existing difficulty yet.

Change Details
New Story difficulty A new easiest mode aimed at players who want to focus on the story with less challenging combat
Current Story mode Will be renamed, bringing the total number of difficulty levels to five
Combat targeting Automatic target switching after stunning an enemy will be removed
Stun behavior Stunned enemies will be able to recover after taking three hits
Escaping combat Running away from enemies will be easier, including encounters with wild animals
PC performance Rebel Wolves will continue working on frame rate and general performance improvements

The target lock change is the one players will notice most in combat. Right now, stunning an enemy can automatically swing the camera to another target. Tomaszkiewicz said this was deliberate, because testers sometimes hit the stunned enemy again by accident and broke the stun. Player feedback convinced the team to change it.

Escaping fights is also being reworked. From player feedback and streams, Rebel Wolves found that getting away from aggressive enemies was more frustrating than intended. Wild animals are getting adjusted too. If an animal attacks Coen as he runs past and misses, players should be able to keep running instead of getting pulled into a fight.

The studio won't lower enemy health as part of these changes. Tomaszkiewicz thinks complaints about enemies soaking up too much damage mostly come down to character builds and unused perks. Strong builds can already take down high-level enemies quickly, and Rebel Wolves doesn't want to cut health values and make those builds overpowered.

Work on the PC version is continuing as well. Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged that players expect higher, steadier frame rates and said performance work will go on after this patch.

New Game Plus is in development too, but Rebel Wolves hasn't said when it will arrive or whether it will be part of the October update. The studio is also considering more enemy types, though Tomaszkiewicz wouldn't confirm them for the patch.

Full patch notes will be published closer to release. Tomaszkiewicz said the changes announced so far are only part of what Rebel Wolves is working on.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is available on PC through Steam and GOG, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
