Unreliable Narrators has announced The Caribou Trail, a first-person adventure set during World War I. The game launches in 2026 on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and PlayStation 5.
Setting and Story
Gallipoli, 1915. Fisher and his friends leave a quiet Newfoundland port town expecting a short adventure — and walk straight into mud, loss, and relentless tension. The campaign spans events from the Allied landing to the evacuation, grounded in real historical accounts blended with fiction.
Gameplay
There are no kill counters or score systems. Instead, players wait for orders, talk around campfires, return dog tags of fallen comrades, and make moral choices that shape Fisher's relationships with his unit. Missions include scouting through barbed wire, eliminating snipers, and covering chaotic retreats — but the goal is never to "win the war." At key moments, players can pull the trigger or lower their weapon. That choice matters.
Characters
Three friends anchor the story: Gordon, sharp-tongued and funny even at the worst moments; Lonnie, inexperienced but holding on, using dark stories to cut the tension; and Fisher himself, whose outlook — facing the horror head-on or retreating into superstition — is shaped by the player.
Tone and Atmosphere
The developers are weaving in folk horror and psychological dread. Shadows in the trenches at night may be more than just shadows. The game uses stylized visuals, cinematic first-person perspective, and an original soundtrack.
