The Defiant — Gameplay Trailer Released for First-Person Shooter Set in the Second Sino-Japanese War

The Defiant New Trailer

Hoothanes and publisher 4Divinity have released a gameplay trailer for The Defiant, a singleplayer story-driven FPS set during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945).

The narrative is divided into four chapters, each telling a separate story of Chinese soldiers resisting Japanese forces. Gameplay varies between chapters — one follows infantry pushing through snowy mountains, another casts the player as a spy gathering intelligence on Japanese command operations in Shanghai.

IGN's Tristan Ogilvie visited BiliBili World in Shanghai and played a demo. His impressions highlight dynamic gunplay, strong weapon impact, varied arsenal, and the setting itself as standouts. On the downside, the demo didn't allow vaulting over obstacles. The full campaign is estimated at around 15 hours. A co-op mode with separate PvE operations for 4–8 players is also confirmed for launch.

No release date has been announced. The Defiant is in development for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
