Bethesda may reveal the name of its next RPG, The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, as early as November 2026. The Verge journalist Tom Warren reports that the game is set in Hammerfell and explores the mysteries surrounding the Elder Scrolls themselves.
Warren shared the information in his October 29 Notepad newsletter, citing sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans. The studio has not confirmed the subtitle, setting, or announcement date.
The reveal could coincide with the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which launched on November 11, 2011. However, Warren expects only the game’s full name, with no larger gameplay presentation.
While I’m only expecting a name reveal next month and nothing more, I’ve been hearing some additional details about the game.
The reported subtitle fits the rumored setting. Sentinel is a city in Hammerfell, a province previously featured in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online. According to Warren’s sources, the story will explore the origins and secrets of the ancient scrolls that give the franchise its name.
The name may have been hinted at earlier. On August 11, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said she had watched a live playthrough of the game, using eight asterisks in place of the full title:
Live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI: ******** this morning. The scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater.
Bethesda Game Studios replied with its own message, also hiding the title behind eight asterisks. Sentinel has exactly eight letters, although neither post confirms it is the actual subtitle. Bethesda has also reportedly shown the game privately to selected people over the past few months.
The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced at E3 2018. In a July 2026 development update, Bethesda confirmed that the RPG had become its primary production focus, with most of the studio working on it. The game is being developed in Creation Engine 3 and is already playable internally.
Bethesda has not announced a release date or confirmed the launch platforms.
