Total War: SHOGUN 2 Complete Edition Launches October 13

Total War Shogun 2 Complete Edition

SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition, an updated version of the 2011 strategy game that bundles the original release with its DLC and adds a range of visual, technical, and gameplay improvements. It launches for PC on October 13, 2026, priced at $39.99.

The new edition is being developed by MATABOO in collaboration with Creative Assembly and SEGA. It includes the original SHOGUN 2 content and its DLC, including the Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai campaigns. More details are available in the official Complete Edition FAQ.

The upgrade goes beyond simply repackaging the existing content. Complete Edition adds improved graphics, higher-resolution UI support, dozens of newly playable factions, modernized controls, new localization options, integrated mod support, and a move to 64-bit.

Upgrade Details
Visuals Updated lighting, shadows, textures, and other graphical improvements
UI Scaling support for 1440p and 4K
Controls Modernized controls
Localization Japanese and Chinese voice acting with full text localization
Playable factions More than 50 newly playable minor factions
Mods Integrated in-game support through Mod.io
Architecture 64-bit upgrade
Content SHOGUN 2 and its DLC, including Rise of the Samurai and Fall of the Samurai

One of the biggest additions is the ability to control more than 50 minor factions that were not previously available as playable clans. Complete Edition also introduces integrated mod support through Mod.io. Mods made for the original SHOGUN 2 will not be compatible with Complete Edition, while the original game's existing mod ecosystem will remain unchanged.

SEGA also shared the announcement on X, highlighting the updated visuals, newly playable factions, Japanese voice acting and text, and the complete DLC package.

The official announcement trailer shows off the refreshed version ahead of its October release:

The campaign still covers the wider Shogun era, with players building alliances, managing armies, constructing castles, sabotaging rivals, and attempting to unite Japan. Battles take place in real time, with commanders able to prepare ambushes, besiege fortresses, and use different tactics across feudal Japan.

Multiplayer is returning as well. Players can develop their own general, earn new equipment and upgrades for their forces, and take part in both cooperative and competitive campaigns. Custom Battles support up to eight players.

Existing owners of Total War: SHOGUN 2 on Steam will receive any legacy DLC they are missing at no additional cost. They will also qualify for a 75% loyalty discount on Complete Edition from October 13 through November 12, 2026.

There is also a change coming to the original release. Starting September 28, 2026, SHOGUN 2 will no longer be available to purchase as a standalone game on Steam. Existing owners will keep access to it, and the original game will continue to be playable.

Steam purchases of Complete Edition will include both the new edition and the original SHOGUN 2 with its associated DLC, excluding the Blood Pack because of age-rating restrictions. Purchases through other storefronts include Complete Edition only.

Total War: SHOGUN 2 – Complete Edition launches on October 13, 2026 for PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store, and GOG.
