The tactical RPG Wartales continues to receive additional content three and a half years after its release. This time, independent developer Shiro Games has announced a knight-themed expansion titled Knights of Fardensa, scheduled to launch on December 9.
In the upcoming DLC, players will explore a new region, the picturesque land of Fardensa, where their band of mercenaries will become directly involved in a conflict between local feudal lords and a brewing rebellion.
"Explore Fardensa, a land of luxurious estates and prosperous farms. These lands belong to the Ald Hertoggs, who hold a monopoly over horses and trade. But their control over the region is weakening. Stolen horses are being smuggled to the mainland, and lesser noble families have formed a fragile alliance against their rulers. Enter the conflict, get to know each family, and decide who will take control.
Each family faces a crisis that could strengthen the rebellion or eliminate one of its members from the struggle. Investigate a murder, protect construction workers or sabotage their efforts, infiltrate a guarded area, recover stolen property, and determine the fate of a ruined family. Support the lesser nobles or secretly serve the Ald Hertoggs. Your decisions will determine which side you ultimately join in the final battle and who will rule Fardensa.
The Ald Hertoggs consider themselves the masters of Fardensa's horses, but the secret of the animals' origins is guarded by an ancient order of guardians. Follow clues from a mysterious book and complete a series of noble trials. Protect the unfortunate, battle bandits, recover a lost knight's sword, and ride a legendary horse. The DLC's main additions include:
- A major storyline divided into two acts
- The ability to turn mercenaries into heavily armored knights
- Five legendary horses
- New challenges, including a regional boss and an arena champion
- Seven new weapons and various pieces of equipment
Alongside the DLC's release, Wartales will receive a major free update featuring:
- Horse crossbreeding and breeding mechanics
- Stables at outposts
- A new riding skill with five specializations (three included in the update and two in the DLC)
- One specialization for horses
- Expanded equipment customization
