Adaptations are the special abilities that Kril can learn and use in the battle in Another Crab's Treasure

Generally, they are the attacks of the bosses, which you can learn after you defeat the boss. So, to unlock the adaptation, you should find and defeat the main story bosses or optional ones.

There are 8 adaptations in Another Crab's Treasures that you can learn, but you can carry only 2 adaptations at once. Using the adaptations consumes Umami charges, whale upgrading costs some Purple Crystals. After you get all of them, you will get a "Well Adapted' achievement.

How to Unlock Adaptations?

To unlock adaptations in Another Crab’s Treasure, you need to find a Duchess Magista in Fort Slacktide. After you defeat her, you will get your first adaptation – Royal Wave.

Duchess Magista is a main story boss, so you can’t miss her or your first adaptation. Just move forward with the main quest line and you will unlock adaptations soon.

Starting from this point you will learn new adaptations after defeating bosses. 4 of the adaptations come from the main bosses, 2 come from the optional bosses, and 2 from the side activity.

All Adaptations in Another Crab’s Treasure

There are 8 adaptations in total that you can learn. To obtain each of them, you need to defeat a boss. Below you will find the table of all Another Crab’s Treasure adaptations with their official description from the game, upgrades, and the location of the boss you need to defeat to unlock the new ability.

Defeat the Ceviche Sisters boss in the Flotsam Vale
3. EelectrocuteCall upon a playful eel to shock nearby enemies or power certain equipment.
  • Lv. 2: Summon duration increased.
  • Lv. 3: Damage and stun duration increased
Defeat the Voltai boss in the Flotsam Vale.
4. Snail SanctumWhen naked, use to summon a shell made of pure Umami.
  • Lv. 2: Gives Spirit Conch a Shell Spell.
  • Lv. 3: Greatly improves Spirit Conch's stats
Defeat Petroch, the False Moon boss in the Unfathom.
5. Bobbit TrapPlace a spectral Bobbit Worm to ensnare and devour any enemy that walks across its hiding spot.
  • Lv. 2: Deals damage over time to trapped enemies.
  • Lv. 3: Traps the enemy for longer and causes them to take increased damage from all sources
Adaptation is located in the western part of The Sands Between. You will find it between the rocks, at the top of the hill.
6. Mantis PunchUnleash the overwhelming might of a Mantis Shrimp to demolish your enemies or certain Umami-infused objects.
  • Lv. 2: Protects Kril from being interrupted while charging.
  • Lv. 3: Teleport Kril in front of the target right before the strike.
Defeat the options boss Gravekeeper Topoda in the Expired Grove.
7. Tactical TentacleSummon a tentacle of pure Umami that attacks along with you as you swing your blade.
  • Lv. 2: Size and length of summon tentacle increased.
  • Lv. 3: Increased the damage and adds lifesteal.
Defeat the optional boss Consortium in Flotsam Vale.
8. Urchin TossThrow an urchin that sticks to enemies before exploding.
  • Lv 2: Urchin pulls enemies towards itself.
  • Lv 3: Size and power increased.
Hug the Urchin in the Lower Crust of New Carcinia several times.

The first 4 adaptations are pretty easy to find. Follow the main story and you will definitely unlock them. However, some of the optional adaptations are hidden, but they are necessary to complete the game for 100%.

Below you will find some details and locations about the optional adaptations.

Bobbit Trap Adaptation Location

It is located in the west of The Sands Between location. You can check the map above to find the direct location. You need to climb on the hill, where you find the adaptation between the 3 rocks. 

However, the area is full of enemies that you need to deal with, so it may be dangerous. Moreover, you will find the X marks on the sand, all over the location. Avoid them, as they are hidden traps that will destroy your shell and kill you if you step on any of them.

Mantis Punch Adaptation Location

You can get this adaptation for defeating the Topoda in the Expired Grove. To find him, start your way from the Curdled Village. Check the exact location of Topoda on the map above.

However, you need to defeat Heikea, the Intimidation Crab boss before you can find the Topoda.

Tactical Tentacle Adaptation Location

To get the Tactical Tentacle adaptation you need to find and defeat the Consortium boss in the Flotsam Vale location. Check the location of the boss on the map above. Start your way from the Oil Drum Moon Shell in the Expired Grove, and backtrack to find the boss.

However, you need the Mantis Punch to destroy the Purple Qube to get to the boss.

Urchin Toss Adaptation Location

The Urchin Toss adaptation is quite easy to get. You can unlock it by interacting with Urchin in the Lower Crust. You will find him to the left of the Bottom Feeders shop. Hug the Urchin (Erich) by running into him several times, and you will unlock the adaptation.

How To Upgrade Adaptations?

Another Crabs Treasure Grovekeeper Topoda

You can upgrade your adaptations by speaking to Topoda in the Expired Grove. However, you need to defeat him before. It is an optional boss in the game, so don't miss it. 

You can upgrade every adaptation up to 2 times. Each upgrade increases the damage, ass some effects, or lover the cost of use. 

Each upgrade requires spending some Purple Crystals. 

  • Level 2 upgrade cost: 25 Purple Crystals
  • Level 3 upgrade cost: 50 Purple Crystals

If you find all the Purple Crystals in the game, you can upgrade all the adaptations to level 3.
