Liquid Swords, the Swedish studio behind Samson: A Tyndalston Story, is shutting down. Founder Christofer Sundberg confirmed the closure on October 19, 2026, saying stronger console sales weren’t enough to fix the company’s financial problems. He also plans to start another game development studio.
Sundberg posted the news on LinkedIn and X. “Liquid Swords is closing its doors,” he wrote.
Liquid Swords is closing. Samson did far better on consoles, but it wasn’t enough to save the studio. I’m proud of our team and what we built. We’re discussing continued support for Samson. We make mistakes, we learn, we rise, we move on. I never give up. More soon. #LiquidSwords #Samson

According to Sundberg, Samson sold considerably better on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S than it did at its original PC launch, but the console results came too late to keep the company running. He put the closure down to the market and to choices made inside the studio: “Market conditions and some bad business decisions brought us here, and I own my part in that.”
Sundberg founded Liquid Swords in Stockholm in 2020, after co-founding Avalanche Studios and helping create the Just Cause series. Samson, the studio’s first game, launched on PC on April 8, 2026, and on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 21.
Money was tight well before release. In February 2025, Liquid Swords confirmed layoffs, and Sundberg later said roughly half the development team had been cut. Samson’s scope was also reduced significantly during development.
It’s unclear what happens to the game now. Sundberg said discussions are underway with parties involved in Liquid Swords about continuing work on Samson, but no agreement has been announced, and there’s no schedule for future patches or updates.
He isn’t leaving game development. “I still love making games,” he said, and he intends to set up a new studio that applies what he learned at Liquid Swords, particularly about financial stability and business decisions. That studio has no announced name, team, funding arrangement, or launch date.
