Christofer Sundberg’s comeback seems to be over. In 2020 the creator of Just Cause announced a new independent studio called Liquid Swords. Its first game, the crime action title Samson, got poor reviews and sold badly, and the studio has been in financial trouble since.
According to the Swedish outlet Breakit, Liquid Swords employees haven’t been paid in several months, and around 30 of them have applied for government assistance. A bankruptcy administrator has been appointed and is looking for a buyer. The studio itself hasn’t made any announcement.
Samson was in trouble from day one. It launched full of technical problems, the gameplay felt clunky, and the story didn’t land. Even at $25 it couldn’t find enough players, and the developers spent most of the time after release putting out patches. The game reached consoles last month, and the most recent update went out on October 9.
On Steam, Samson has more than 3,600 user reviews, and only 55% of them are positive.
“This game has an enormous number of bugs, and the combat system is absolutely terrible. It’s hard to believe this game came out in 2026. I waited several months for patches before forming a fair opinion, hoping the developers would fix the problems, but nothing has changed. This game isn’t worth the time or money spent on it,” one disappointed player wrote.
