Hello Games has released update 7.0 for No Man's Sky, titled COSMOS, on the game's 10th anniversary. Sean Murray describes it as one of the most expansive updates in the game's history, focused on making open space a full gameplay environment rather than just transit between planets.
Key additions:
- Modular space bases can now be built at almost any point in open space, with the same depth and scale as planetary bases
- Interactive star system map showing celestial bodies, unidentified signals, and other points of interest
- Stars that were previously unreachable can now be explored
- Space stations can be claimed and customized — interior and exterior both. Stations can be converted into alliance headquarters, with players able to found their own alliance, set a name and banner, and recruit crew
- Space Hulks — massive drifting ship wreckage containing valuable technology
- Outposts — free-floating stations with NPC traders offering unique quests and rewards; some are abandoned and overrun by mutants
- Crystal deposits in asteroid belts, competed over by players and other intelligent races
- Large asteroids that support full base construction
- 10th anniversary expedition: Our Journey Continues, with rewards including a new diplodocus companion
No Man's Sky is available on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. Hello Games is also working on their next game, the fantasy title Light No Fire.
