Kraken Express has revealed the first major content update for pirate survival game Windrose, titled Ashlands, alongside a debut teaser. The update is still in early development, and the planned content may change based on player feedback.
Planned Additions Include
- Continuation of the main story with new main and side quests
- New factions, each with unique traits and goals
- A full fourth biome — a long-forgotten Spanish colony covered in volcanic ash
- New islands with enemies, resources, items, recipes, points of interest, and a major boss
- Buccaneer costume updates, with other factions also receiving attention
- New armor and weapon variants
- Expanded building options with various improvements
- Ship gameplay improvements
- At least one new ship class — a brigantine, fluyt, and galleon are currently in parallel development
- More faction ship variants
- AI improvements
The studio noted that after the intense work of getting the Early Access launch to a satisfactory level, long-term planning took a back seat. With the most pressing issues resolved, they're now focused on making Ashlands as strong as possible before mapping out what comes next.
Windrose is currently in Early Access on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Full release is planned in approximately 18 months to two years, at which point console versions will also launch.
