Pearl Abyss has released patch 1.04.00 for Crimson Desert — described by the studio's marketing director as the largest update to date. The patch introduces difficulty settings, new gear, new pets, expanded storage, and a full controls overhaul.
Note: After installing the patch, some players are reporting that mount summoning stops working — horses no longer appear in the quick-select slot. Pearl Abyss has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix.
Difficulty Settings
Three options are now available: Easy, Normal, and Hard. Normal matches the previous default. Easy reduces incoming damage and tones down enemy aggression, speed, and health, while Hard increases damage taken, toughens enemies, tightens skill activation windows, reduces dodge invincibility frames, and gives some bosses new attack patterns. Food effects on Hard only apply after the eating animation completes.
Content
New storage options include a 1,000-slot collectible storage, a Yellowbeak food refrigerator in standard (40 slots) and upgraded (330 slots) versions, and a wardrobe. Home layout and item placement have been reworked with a fully redesigned interface.
New bird pets have been added across Pywel — players befriend them by placing feed on totem poles, earned through quests. Pets and horses can now be renamed. Five new cat types have been added, and a bug where cats would sit on the protagonist's shoulder indefinitely has been turned into a feature via the new Solidarity Talisman. A pet accessory slot has been added, with more items planned. A secret shop NPC selling pet gear has appeared in Pororin.
New weapons include branches for Cliff and Unka, and the Star Sword for Damiann via a special quest. Grey Mane faction NPCs now offer a 10% discount to allies, and livestock traders have been added. Items can now be locked in inventory to prevent accidental selling.
Controls
New control presets for controllers and keyboard/mouse. Dodge activation can now be set to double-tap or hold. The interaction button now executes actions instantly. Aiming controls have been improved — the lantern can be toggled while aiming, and pressing the aim button now immediately switches to aim mode even with a weapon drawn. Map is now opened via the touchpad (DualSense) or View button (Xbox).
Other
Distant object and texture rendering quality improved. Boss balance adjusted — bosses no longer gain immunity during wind-up animations for powerful attacks. Inventory is now categorized with search and map filtering. The quest journal now shows available quest counts. Accessibility options added: colorblind mode, chromatic aberration toggle, and photosensitivity protection. Intel XeSS 3.0 and XeSS Frame Generation quality improved on PC. Tumbleweed has been added to desert areas.
Crimson Desert is available on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is under consideration.
