Bethesda released Starfield on PlayStation 5 yesterday, alongside the free Free Lanes update and the paid Terran Armada DLC.
Free Lanes Update Includes
- Free flight between planets within a single star system
- New locations, points of interest, random encounters, side quests, and dungeons
- New ship modules
- X-Tech mechanic — a new resource for upgrading weapons and ships
- Enemy modifiers
- New ground vehicle and a new pet
- Shared resource container across all outposts
- New character menu database
- Collectible action figures with permanent effects, similar to Fallout 3 bobbleheads
- New crew members: Muria and a mini-bot
- Improved Starborn abilities
- New Game+ carry-over for a limited number of items
- New photo mode and camera options
Terran Armada DLC Includes
- New story campaign centered on the long-lost Terran Armada
- Invasion system — Terran Armada attacks at various points on the star map
- New companion: Delta, a reprogrammed Terran Armada robot
- New crew member: ModelG robot
- New ships, modules, gear, and outpost decorations
The reception so far has been underwhelming. Terran Armada picked up just over 200 Steam reviews in its first day at 59% positive, and the game's peak concurrent player count reached 20K. Bethesda had originally spoken about supporting Starfield with DLC for years — whether a third expansion materializes remains to be seen.
Starfield is available on PC (Steam), Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5.
