Subnautica 2 Hits 5 Million Sales and Releases First Major Patch

Subnautica2 Adaptive Measures

Subnautica 2 has sold over five million copies in just under two months. Alongside the milestone, Unknown Worlds has released patch 1.1 — Adaptation Mechanics — with a lengthy list of changes.

Key Changes in Patch 1.1

Hostile creatures can't be killed, which divided the community at launch. The patch doesn't change that, but players can now briefly stun creatures with a sonic resonator hit. Most creatures have also been rebalanced to flee after being attacked with the multitool, only fighting back defensively and for a limited time. Fish schooling behavior has been improved, and the Plague Parasite is now always the first creature players encounter.

Subnautica Patch 1

The biomodification system has been reworked for the early game, with two new biolabs added — one in the Coral Gardens, one in Axum ruins. The number of biomodifications unlockable per biolab has increased from four to six, and all biomodifications are now unlocked by default in Creative mode. Additional passive biomodification slots now unlock by scanning creatures with the bioscanner, with the scan count needed for each slot now displayed.

Subnautica Patch 2

Sprinting has been added on land and inside bases, with a remappable button — though base walking speed has been reduced. Base dismantling now supports larger structures. Platform and transport bay rail sizes have been reduced, item outlines are clearer when placing near other objects or the water surface, and transport bays and fabricators can now be placed in tighter spaces near hatches.

Subnautica Patch 3

The save system has been updated so unlocked biomodifications no longer disappear. A field of view slider has been added to settings.

Update 1.2 is coming in a few weeks, focusing on co-op improvements including voice chat and ally revival.

Subnautica 2 is available in Early Access on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series, including Game Pass.
