Valheim is a sandbox game that offers an immersive exploration and building experience. Exploring it is great, no doubt. But let’s be honest for a second: not everyone wants to spend half an evening mining copper or dragging a boat across the ocean while the wind refuses to cooperate. I definitely don’t always have the patience for that.

At some point, I started messing around with Valheim cheats instead. Turns out they’re actually pretty useful. You can switch on god mode, spawn any item, fly over the map, or even teleport. It changes the rhythm of the game a lot. Sometimes that’s exactly what you want.

The fun part is experimenting. Want to build a huge arena? Easy. Need enemies for a quick fight or some weird battle scenario? Spawn them. Suddenly Valheim starts feeling more like a playground than a survival grind.

How to Use Cheats in Valheim?

You need to do several simple steps to activate your game console and start using cheats in Valheim. So, you need to:

Activate a console in Steam: right-click Valheim > Properties > General > Launch Options > type “-console"
Start Valheim and enter your world (most of the cheats are available only in single mode)
Click “F5” on your keyboard (or FN + F5 if you play on Mac)
Type “devcommands” and press “Enter” to activate cheats in Valheim
Add any of the code codes below and have fun!

How to Use Valheim Cheats and Codes on Xbox?

To open the console on Xbox, hold down the Right Bumper, Left Bumper, Right Trigger, and Left Trigger buttons at the same time. After that, press the Xbox "menu" button (RB + LB + RT + LT + menu button).

After you activate the console, press A to get access to the Xbox keyboard and type any of the cheats below.

Valheim Creative Mode Cheat

I know that most of you are for the creative mod cheat from the YouTube videos, which allows your character to fly. It calls debugmode in Valheim.

So, to activate it, type "debugmode" in the console and then, press a key to activate or deactivate any of the powers:

Z - Enter Flying Mode
K - Kills all enemies in the area
B - Allow you to repair any items without a Workbench, and place any item with no cost

By the way, I suggest you use flight with activated "god" mode, from the cheats list below. While you are flying, your hero is not immune to damage, and fall damage may become a problem (perhaps you noticed No Drain Skill on my screenshots above 🤝).

How to Disable Cheats in Valheim

So maybe you’ve been messing around with cheats for a while — flying over mountains, spawning stacks of iron, building giant bases without spending a single piece of wood. Fun for testing things, sure. But after some time it starts to feel… off. Valheim’s survival loop only really works when the rules are back in place.

Turning cheats off isn’t complicated. First open the console again by pressing F5. If developer commands were enabled earlier, just type devcommands.

Press Enter. That’s it — the command basically toggles the system. If cheats were active, they’ll shut off. Try using something like god after that and you’ll notice it doesn’t respond anymore.

Now, if you used debug mode (which most players do for creative-style building), that needs to be switched off too. Same console window, same F5 key. Then type: debugmode.

Hit Enter. Flying, no-cost building, and those instant construction tools disappear right away. Your hammer will start behaving like normal again.

Sometimes players worry that cheats stay hidden somewhere in the world file. They don’t. In most cases, once the commands are turned off, everything goes back to standard survival rules. Still, if you want to be extra sure, just leave the world and load it again. Quick reset. Done.
